Scooter the Tooter

The kid just learned to crawl, so I thought I'd take Google Video's new in-browser uploader for a spin. As you can see below, Google Video now enables you to embed videos in your own web page. I can't believe how fast it transcoded and posted my video. I think it beat my quad G5. I uploaded a 320x180 H.264 video encoded by iMovie/QuickTime. I'm a little concerned about the privacy implications (i.e. anyone can see a movie of my bambino), but I think this clip is pretty innocuous.
Update: I tweaked the height of the embedded player. The default height was appropriate for 4:3 video while this particular video has a 16:9 (widescreen) aspect ratio. For future reference, 400x252 was the magic width and height. This means the panel at the bottom is 27 pixels high, which in turn means for a given width w, height h = w / ratio + 27.

Fatherhood is a great experience. I have two daughters now 7 and 9 but I remeber well those days and hove lots of video jsut waiting for the Final Cut Studio 'knife'. To use an engineer's metaphor, fatherhood jumps to instantiates objects and calls methods in our firmware we never knew were there before. Enjoy this time--it is one of life's true pleasure. Congratulations and best wishes.

I can really understand the driving force to write about your kid, but google employees tend to write way too much about the latest greatest tools from google. At the end it feels like a marketing blog entry.

From time to time, the same feeling occurs to me when reading cedrics blog. Just a coincidence or is there a payback plan or is it just that google is so great that everybody wants to write about its products....

Ha ha. What happened here is someone else blogged that I should move entries about my kid to a different blog, but I'm too lazy for that, so I tried to give this one some semblance of technical relevance. I really just wanted to show off my kid and iMovie skillz and not catch flak for it.

I'll try to steer clear of the marketing in the future, but make no mistake, I'm far from impartial. ;)

Hey "anonymous", guess what? This is Bob's blog. He can write about whatever he wants. If you don't like it, or think he is marketing Google products too much, here is an idea...go away.

Embedding that video is cool.

Hey Bob- cute little bambino you got there! But honestly, I'm posting here because I found this page off Google. I'm trying to figure out how to get my AVI widescreen 16:9 videos embedded on my and my fiancee's Blogger site with Google Video. How did you do that??? I do not have have iMovie or a Mac setup, FWIW, and can't find any way to make this happen so far. Odd that GV doesn't have a checkbox to simply enable 16:9...

If you could drop me a quick note how, I would really appreciate it.

Cheers,
-Chris
