Treader: Twitter directly from Google Reader
I love my Google Reader shared items, but when I want to add a little commentary, I post a link to Twitter. I created a Greasemonkey script named Treader to streamline the process.
In Google Reader, I select the entry I want to twitter and then hit Shift+T. Treader pops up a prompt pre-filled with the entry name and link.
I just edit the twitter to my liking, and hit OK. Treader posts it in the background using Twitter's API. I never have to leave Google Reader.
To try it for yourself:
- Install Greasemonkey if you haven't already. Greasemonkey requires Firefox.
- Install Treader.
- Reload Google Reader, select an entry you want to share, and then hit Shift+T. It will ask you to log into Twitter the first time through.
Thanks to Mihai for helping me work out the kinks.

JFYI:
Greasemonkey scripts work in Opera out of the box!
Cool! I had no idea.
Bob, can you make similar script for posting to delicious? :-)
Eu, done. Reinstall and hit Shift+D.
This rocks!!
Thanks Bob. Just installed this. It will be a nice addition to my Twitter/Reader arsenal.

Does this work with Firefox 3b4?
Not yet--it requires Greasemonkey which doesn't work with b4 yet.
Hey Bob any thoughts on hope I can make treader work with Chrome? it's supposed to have greasemonkey support now.
Thanks
@amoyal
I'm not sure. I only use OS X, so I can't run Chrome. :-(
Thanks Bob. This works great. Would love to see it work in Chrome too. But, enjoying it anyways.

Thanks a lot Bob. I used to use Google Reader + Twitter Greasemonkey script before. It recently stopped working for me.
This works gr8...
Any chance we could get this as an icon beneath each gReader entry. Im referring to the icons such as: Add Star, Share, Email, Keep Unread, etc.
The keyboard shortcut is nice, but a lot of us prefer visual icons.
Bob, thank you so much for this! I installed it and it works to bring up the link, but it never asked me for Twitter info so it doesn't end up posting. Any troubleshooting ideas? I would really appreciate some help.
Make sure you have the latest versions of Firefox and Greasemonkey.
Is there an alternative...I do not use Firefox nor do I want to install it.
OMG this is the coolest thing ever.. thanks!
Bob,
Treader worked wonderfully when I first installed it, but in the last days, when I am in Google Reader, it still goes through all the motions, but nothing ends up on my Twitter page. It is like I am posting to the void...which really isn't that different than Twitter. Just curious if you have any thoughts as as to why this is happening.
