$100 Laptop: Where is the U.S.?
From the F.A.Q.:
How will these be marketed? The idea is to distribute the machines through those ministries of education willing to adopt a policy of "One Laptop per Child." Initial discussions have been held with China, Brazil, Thailand, and Egypt. Additional countries will be selected for beta testing. Initial orders will be limited to a minimum of one million units (with appropriate financing).China, Brazil, Thailand, and Egypt... Let's not forget about the 12.9 million children living in poverty in the United States. Can you believe that a mere $1.3 billion could equip every poor child in the U.S. with a laptop? Think how much we could save in text book costs. Who is working on this? Are we really going to sell laptops to countries half way around the world without giving one to the kid down the street?
